Verse of the Day
The third time he (Jesus) said to him, "Simon son of John, do you love me?" Peter was hurt because Jesus asked him the third time "do you love me?" He said "Lord, you know all things; you know that I love you." Jesus said, "Feed my sheep". John 21:17
Peter had denied Jesus three times at Jesus' mock trial, Peter the loud mouthed and confident one of the disciples had even left it up to a couple of fringe group members to be the ones to step up to claim Jesus' body and to bury it. Peter was well hidden away on Sunday morning when Jesus rose from the dead, however Peter was the one, though puffed by the run to the tomb had the courage to go into the empty tomb. Peter also had the courage not to kill himself when he denied association with Jesus and betrayed him publically unlike Judas.
We can learn a lot about Jesus and thus God's attitude towards us by studying the relationship between Jesus and Peter. God wants us to be in relationship with Him, he loves us and is willing to forgive us even when we fall away, He sees our potential even when we can't.
Restoration with God when done with repentance like Peter is complete. Peter did not have extra punishments heaped upon him he was commanded to get going and to feed the lambs, care for the sheep and feed the sheep. This threefold statement has much that could be said about it.
Peter demonstrated even greater courage from this point onwards even to being later executed for being a Christian and a shepherd of the sheep. Does your relationship with Jesus need restoring?
Have a wonderful day.
